Pokémon

The Pokémon franchise has two notable evolution lines that are based on seals. The first line that was introduced was Seel and Dewgong in the Red and Blue games. Despite Seel’s name and its appearance resembling an actual seal, the pokédex classifies it as the Sea Lion Pokémon. Seel loves to live in freezing cold temperatures, and it uses the horn on it’s head to break the ice above it as a way to reach the surface. Dewgong’s white fur helps blend in with snow to hide from predators, and it was once mistaken to be a mermaid by a mariner who saw it sleeping on a glacier.

The second evolution line is Spheal, Sealeo, and Walrein, introduced in the Ruby and Sapphire games. Spheal is known as the Clap Pokémon, since they always clap when they are happy and before they have a meal. Due to their round bodies, they do not swim very well, so they travel instead by rolling around. Sealeo, the Ball Roll Pokémon, is very talented at balancing round objects on its nose, and will often use Spheals to practice. Even though Walrein is not technically based on a seal, it is still a member of the pinniped family. It’s able to break through tons of ice using its tusks and has a massive amount of blubber to repel both the cold and enemy attacks.

A Hat in Time

The first DLC for A Hat in Time, Seal the Deal, features a new chapter called The Arctic Cruise, where Hat Kid helps out the walrus captain and his crew of adorable seals. These seals may be a bit clumsy and not the best at their job, but boy they sure are cute!

The elephant seals are not nearly as hostile, but they are still not very friendly to the penguins. In the end though they helped tell the penguins where to go.
